What is Truth?

Truth is that which equals the facts. Is the statement, “In John 14:6 it says that Jesus is the only way to the Father” true? This statement is indeed part of John 14:6, therefore, the statement is true – it equals the facts.

Truth is Not Wishful Thinking

Truth is not what equals wishful thinking. For example, I wish to determine my own way to heaven, therefore, I do. But in the case of heaven it is God who determines who is admitted and no amount of wishful thinking will change that.

Not All Truth is Relative

The most prevalent competing view of truth is that truth can be show to be false with three questions:

  1. Are you sure?
  2. Really sure?
  3. Absolutely sure?

If the answer is no, then there can be absolute truth. But if the answer is yes, then all truth is not relative, for there is at least one absolute truth, which is that all true is relative. But if there is one absolute truth, why can’t there be more? Indeed there are. For example, all people should always be loving and intelligent.
