What is God’s purpose in creating humanity?

The greatest commandments is to love God (Matthew 22:37).  God’s purpose in creating mankind is to create a certain number of free people who will freely choose to love Him.  These people are known as the Church, the universal body of believers from all denominations and church groups. God has raised up the Church to unite with the Son in a special way in the future.  People don’t need love relationships but desire them because by their nature they are loving beings.  In a similar way, God doesn’t need our love but as a loving God He desires to love others who have the ability to reciprocate His love.

Does God still love the people He sends to hell?

God does not send people to hell based on emotion but law.  Break the law and if it demands it, the judge has to punish the lawbreaker no matter how much he loves them.  God’s law is one with His nature and demands sin be punished.  That’s why Jesus was punished and died for sins on the cross – to fulfill God’s law so a pardon could be extended to those how would receive it.

This type of question often implies it is contradictory for a loving God to send people to hell.  It’s actually contradictory for a loving God to ignore His law and justice by automatically rewarding lawbreakers with heaven.

I don’t believe the Bible – men wrote it

Of course men wrote the Bible.  Who claims any differently!  The implication here is that the bible is not from God but just a man-made book.  But just because men wrote the bible does not mean God did not have a hand in its authorship.   If God can create the Universe, can’t He inspire a select number of people to accurately write down some books for Him?

2 Timothy 3:16  “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, …”

Matthew 7:12  “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”

When I read other peoples writings, I do not convict them as being guilty of lying until proven innocent, in part because I don’t want people doing that to me.  Therefore, people who also hold to the Golden Rule should extend the same liberty to the bible as they do their own writings.
