A Tale of Two Chiefs

In April of 2014 in Latta, SC, a lesbian police chief was fired from her job. The reason was the new mayor wrote up seven reprimands in one day (she had never received one before in over 20 years of service) and would not sign them without her lawyer. The more likely reason was caught in a taped phone call in which the mayor stated he would not let a lesbian “have an influence on his child.” She was not fired just for being a lesbian, but for making it public. LGBT supporters were outraged. They called for her reinstatement. She has a right to live as an open lesbian. Her being a lesbian was not a detraction from her work. She was later reinstated by the town council.

In November of 2014 in Atlanta, GA, a Christian fire chief was suspended and later fired from his job. The reason the mayor gave was his judgment and ability to manage the department. But the mayor stated that the Atlanta Fire Department was top scoring nationally and the chief “defiantly added value.” The more likely reason is the chief published a book agreeing with the Bibles condemnation of homosexuality. So he was not fired for being a Bible-believing Christian, but for making it public. LGBT supporters were outraged. They called for his termination. He has no right to live as an open Bible-believing Christian. His being a Christian was not a detraction from his work. Many are calling for his reinstatement but don’t count on it.

Poetic hypocrisy.

Suicide is Never the Answer

At the writing of this post, there is much talk about the need to affirm transgendered people to avoid them committing suicide.

Non-affirmation ? Suicide

Suicide simply does not follow from non-affirmation. If if did, everyone would kill themselves. Everyone has to deal with rejection. Live your life. Don’t end it over someone elses views about you.

But it hurts so bad

Everyone deals with people not affirming them. Why don’t they all commit suicide? Because it makes no sense to most people. They are not living their lives based on other people’s approval. Neither should you. Please seek out help to get a proper perspective.

But it’s hateful

Some people are hateful. It’s part of life. It does not warrant letting them get the better of you and committing the ultimate act of hate against yourself. But not all non-affirming views come about by hate. Keep in mind that you don’t affirm all people. Does that mean you hate them? Maybe it does but this is not how all people think. In fact, most people can disagree with others without hating them.

But being LGBT is different

This is true. Most people’s communities are not stressing their differences from others in society are the most important thing about them. You are a human being above your sexuality with value and worth. No one can take this away from you but you can throw it away yourself by committing suicide.

But things will never get better

You’ll have to live your life to know if this is true. What you should know is this is a statement of a depressed person. Depression makes it seem much worse that they are. People do not make good choices in a depressed state – they make bad ones. From a depressed state things can always get better.

If you identify as Christian

Being a Christian means Jesus is not just your Savior but your Lord. He has given you your life as a precious gift. As Lord, He has a plan as to when your earthly life will end. Taking your own life says something about who is really Lord of your life. Jesus could has saved Himself from death but instead He stated, “Not my will but Yours by done.” This is the attitude of a true follower of Christ.

Suicide is not the ultimate answer but the ultimate mistake. I implore you, whether you feel bullied, hated, rejected, depressed, worthless, broke, unemployed, you name it – do not end your life. You were created with a purpose – the purpose to life and love forever. Jesus paid your penalty on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins. Repent and trust in Him for eternal life. Eternal life with God, not death separated from Him, is infinitely more important than anything else in this world.

Gay Activist Disappointed by the Truth

The above photo is a billboard on display in Richmond, Virginia in December 2014. Here is one reaction from a local gay activist:

“I am shocked and really disappointed that at the end of 2014, we have a billboard in the middle of our city that says that kind of hate.” ~ Beth Panilaitis, executive director of Rosmy in Richmond, VA.

So it’s hateful to express the belief that homosexuality is not completely biologically determined? The word ‘completely’ is important. The reason for the billboard is to counter the gay argument that homosexuality is inborn like race. Now consider the following:

No one knows what causes heterosexuality, homosexuality, or bisexuality. ~ Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists, directly quoting the American Psychiatric Association

Some people believe that sexual orientation is innate and fixed; however, sexual orientation develops across a person’s lifetime. ~ American Psychiatric Association

How hateful!

Also consider:

Sexual orientation is commonly discussed as if it were solely a characteristic of an individual, like biological sex, gender identity, or age. This perspective is incomplete because sexual orientation is defined in terms of relationships with others. ~ American Psychological Association

So sexual orientation cannot be determined like biological sex because it “is defined in terms of relationships with others.” One can be black or white without interacting with others after birth but sexual orientation requires relationships with others for the attractions to be determined. Most mental-health professionals believe there is some biological component to sexual orientation. But in the full sense of the definition of sexual orientation, nobody’s sexuality can be determined at birth.

“We do not know why people are heterosexual. Maybe when we figure that out, we can determine why some people are not.” ~ Richmond Gay Community Foundation executive director Bill Harrison

What Mr. Harrison probably means, like the mental-health associations, is we do not know exactly why people are heterosexual or not. The above quotes show we do have some idea. Bravo to Mr. Harrison for acknowledging this truth. For this, are gay activist like Mr. Harrison to be charged with hating gay people?
