Have you read every holy book?

How can you claim the Bible is true when you haven’t read through every holy book in the world?  Maybe one of them is true?

Answer

Truth is not determined by reading false ideas.  Truth is what equals the facts and everything contradicting the truth is false.  If one determines the bible to be true, reading contradictory truth claims is not necessary to claim the bible’s validity.
Note: To be open minded and informed, I have read the works of the major world religions and cults.  I still find the bible to be true.  Why not read it for yourself?

What is the evidence that the bible is God’s Word?

  1. If Jesus was God, what Jesus said would be true because God cannot lie.
  2. Jesus claimed to be God and proved it by the resurrection.
  3. Jesus quoted extensively from the Old Testament as God’s Word.
  4. The New Testament was written by men who believed they were writing scripture (ex., 2 Peter 3:15-16).
  5. Most of these men died for their beliefs. A deceived person may die for a lie but a lair does not die for their own lie when they could stop or recant and live.
  6. Therefore, the testimony of the New Testament writers about Jesus is trustworthy. They were writing what God inspired them to – God’s Word.

I don’t believe the Bible – men wrote it

Of course men wrote the Bible.  Who claims any differently!  The implication here is that the bible is not from God but just a man-made book.  But just because men wrote the bible does not mean God did not have a hand in its authorship.   If God can create the Universe, can’t He inspire a select number of people to accurately write down some books for Him?

2 Timothy 3:16  “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, …”

Matthew 7:12  “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”

When I read other peoples writings, I do not convict them as being guilty of lying until proven innocent, in part because I don’t want people doing that to me.  Therefore, people who also hold to the Golden Rule should extend the same liberty to the bible as they do their own writings.
